Customer base of Beeline in Uzbekistan shrinks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 7

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Russian Beeline's customer base in Uzbekistan decreased to 7.1 million people by the end of the second quarter of 2020, Trend reports citing the report of VEON company.

This is 18 percent less than it was in the same period of 2019 (8.7 million). The company explained the decline in outflow among customers with irregular costs and strategic focus on customer quality.

“Decline also reflects the impact of quarantine measures, which led to a reduction in the number of migrant clients due to border closures and consequently, reduced demand for mobile data,” the company's report said.

As a result, the number of mobile data users fell by 15 percent, from 5.4 million to 4.6 million.

Total revenue of the mobile operator in Uzbekistan for the first quarter of 2020 decreased by 15.5 percent compared to the same indicator in 2019 - from 567.8 billion soum ($55.5 million) to 479.9 billion soum ($46.9 million).

The company said this is conditioned by the influence of quarantine measures, new methodology of excise duty and introduction of registration under IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity).

VEON operates in Uzbekistan under Beeline brand and since 2006 the company has invested over a $1 billion in Uzbekistan.
