BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 9
By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:
Azerbaijan primarily meets the national demand in the field of information technology, and also provides satellite services for the countries of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, Elmir Valizade said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Valizade made the remark within the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS-2020) event organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which took place in a virtual format.
The main topic of the event was the issues on the mechanisms of global cooperation for an accelerated transition to digitalization.
"The coronavirus pandemic, which humanity is currently struggling with, has increased the significance of information communications and highlighted the importance of the issue of overcoming digital differences," the deputy minister noted.
He said that the development of high technologies, including the IT sector, is a priority of state policy in Azerbaijan.
“Projects implemented in our country take into account internal needs, and thereby providing opportunities for regional interaction,” Valizade said.
The deputy minister added that projects such as the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) contribute to digital differentiation in the region.
The TASIM project provides for two stages: the creation of the main transit internet infrastructure connecting the West and the East, and its further use to provide internet connections at acceptable prices for Eurasian countries that do not have direct access to the open sea.
The implementation of the TASIM project should help create an open information society in the region, increase the speed of internet connections and develop internet services, which, in turn, will lead to an increase in competition, development, and diversification of the economies of the countries in the region.
