BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. Azerbaijan's state internet provider Aztelecom LLC under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan this week shared its plans to build GPON Gigabit Passive Optical Network for 70,000 port splitters by the end of 2022, Trend reports.
Besides, Baku Telephone Communications LLC (Baktelecom) is planning to build GPON network techology at 315 various areas and 32 telecommunication departments.
This week, contactless payment solution Google Pay was also launched in Azerbaijan. The first banks to launch the solution were PASHA Bank, Bank Respublika, International Bank of Azerbaijan, Kapital Bank, RabitaBank, Leobank and Unibank.
According to MasterCard General Director for Azerbaijan and Türkiye Avshar Gurdal, presently Android devices in Azerbaijan account for 70 percent, and the launch of Google Pay will significantly increase the share of non-cash payments in the total turnover.
He also said that MasterCard plans to increase the share of non-cash payments to 50 percent in Azerbaijan, and for this aim it’s conducting relevant work both with the Central Bank of the country and with local partner banks.
At the same time, MasterCard continues to negotiate with the Central Bank of Türkiye on the recognition of Azerbaijani installment cards in Türkiye, and it's planned to provide Azerbaijani installment cardholders with the opportunity to make payments in installments in the country in the near future, added Gurdal.
In the outgoing week, the Azerbaijani representative office of the Ukrainian BAKOTECH company informed about entry of the US Netscout Systems company, a developer of solutions for network and application performance management, as well as DDoS protection and incident investigation, to the Azerbaijani market.
It’s planned to launch solutions for monitoring networks and applications, detecting threats at the network level (Network Detection and Response, NDR), protection against DDoS, as well as solutions for mobile operators to protect and monitor the telecom infrastructure, BAKOTECH said.
Azerbaijan Banking Association noted this week that within the framework of strategy for the development of non-cash payment for 2021-2023 implemented by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, the introduction of the ISO 2002 standard, the preparation of unified API standards, and the creation and commissioning of the Know Your Customer (e-KYS) electronic system are considered.
