A new passenger terminal is being built at Kutaisi airport, Trend reports with reference to businesstime.ge.

Currently, Kutaisi International Airport can serve 300 passengers per hour. Upon completion of the construction of the new passenger terminal, the airport will have seven exits, and its capacity will increase over 1,000 passengers.

“We have an ambitious plan to increase the number of flights and low cost airlines. A fourfold increase in passenger traffic will allow us to turn Georgia into a regional center for cheap flights to the EU,”said Georgy Chogovadze, CEO of the Georgian Airports Association.

As reported the facade and roof of the new terminal are almost completed. The total area of the new terminal is 24,176 square meters. This means that the updated terminal will be three times larger than the existing one.

According to Chogovadze, engineering systems are currently being installed, and communication works are underway. After the construction, the existing and new terminal buildings will be combined.

The design of the renewed terminal of Kutaisi International Airport is handled by the Dutch architectural company UN Studio.
