Iran Air cancels flights to EU, but not due to coronavirus

TEHRAN, Iran, March. 8

Trend:

The cancellation of Iran Air flights to European countries has nothing to do with the coronavirus outbreak, Secretary of Iran's Aviation Companies Association Maghsoud Asadi Samani said.

"Due to restrictions imposed by European countries on Iran Air flights for unknown reasons, all Iran Air flights to European destinations are suspended," Samani said, Trend reports citing ISNA.

Currently, no freight and passenger flights are operated by domestic airlines to Europe, despite the Mahan Airlines flight to Barcelona, which will continue until March 27, he said.

"Europeans have put in place certain rules for passenger and cargo flights to various destinations, and these laws and regulations have been conditional on having a software that is provided by the US,” he said, adding that the US doesn't give the software to Iran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Organization are currently consulting to resolve this problem and resume flights to European countries, said Samani.

He expressed hope that this problem will be resolved as soon as possible.

"Of course, some of Qatar Airways' flights, which are mostly freight flights, are operating from Tehran to European destinations,” he said.
