Production plan for transport and communication sectors has surpassed the initial forecast in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.
The issue was discussed as part of the report on the country's GDP results from January through May 2020 during a working meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
For the five months of the year, the production has exceeded the initial plan by 2.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
For the mentioned period of 2020 the plan for cargo transportation by road, rail, air and sea transport exceeded the forecast by 1.8 percent, passenger transportation by 0.6 percent, and cargo turnover - by 2.9 percent, all compared to the same period of last year.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov noted that today the country's transport sector, is experiencing difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic in the world.
The president said that in this situation it is necessary to support transport companies so that they have the means to pay salaries and fulfill financial obligations.
Earlier, Turkmenistan planned to introduce mandatory passenger insurance for all types of transport. All terms and requirements were brought in line with the document with the changes and additions that have been made in recent years to the laws of Turkmenistan on insurance, on road and railway transport, the Air Code and the Merchant Shipping Code.
