BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has made a decision to build a new passenger terminal at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on November 14, 2022, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and CEO of Director of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Hamid Reza Seyedi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

He made the remark at the event regarding the reopening of the left runway No. 29 at Mehrabad International Airport.

The deputy minister noted that the new passenger terminal is planned to have an annual capacity of 20 million passengers.

Seyedi also added that Mehrabad airport’s terminals No. 1 and No. 2 have been operating for more than 70 years. That’s why the mentioned two terminals are considered historical monuments.

“Meanwhile, terminals No. 4 and No. 6 are also considered unsuitable for passengers due to there are industrial warehouses,” he said.

On November 14, 2022, the left runway No. 29 at Iran's Mehrabad International Airport was put into use after 15 months of reconstruction and repair.

It is the first time since the Islamic Revolution in Iran that the runway of this airport has been completely reconstructed and repaired. In this regard, 7.5 trillion rials (about $179 million) have been spent.
