BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. Iran has reached an agreement with 5 countries - Russia, Iraq, Syria, Armenia and Turkmenistan - to boost its transit potential, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash said, Trend reports.

He spoke at the inauguration of a new passenger terminal at the Kish International Airport on Kish Island, a part of Iran’s Hormozgan Province.

Bazrpash noted that the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran is focused on enhancing the International East-West and North-South Transport corridors that pass through Iran.

The minister added that this issue was discussed during his visits and meetings with the regional countries.

He also mentioned that Iran’s transit potential was a topic of interest at the 16th summit of the presidents of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization, which took place in Uzbekistan on November 9-10. He said that the member countries wanted to use Iran’s transit opportunities.

According to Bazrpash, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran is working on connecting Shahid Rajaee port with the Caspian port by railway.

The new passenger terminal of Iran’s Kish International Airport was opened on November 14, 2023. The project cost about 20 trillion rials (around $476 million).
