BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 27. Iran saw an 84.6 percent growth in monthly cargo transit through its roads and railroads in the 8th month of the current Iranian year (October 23 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same month of the previous year, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh said, Trend reports.
The deputy minister said that more than 1.54 million tons of cargo were transited via Iran’s roads and railways for the past eight months.
Afandizadeh added that approximately 1.4 million tons of the mentioned volume were transited through the country's roads. He also stated that about 545,000 tons of crude oil and petroleum products and over 855,000 tons of non-oil products were transited via the country’s roads in the 8th month.
Also, 142,000 tons of cargo were transited through Iran's railways during the eighth month, the official noted.
Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.
The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. At present, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
