ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 20. Turkmenistan and Russia are actively cooperating in the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor, Ambassador of Russia to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin told Russian media, Trend reports.

"Indeed, we are witnessing the intensification of bilateral cooperation between our ministries and departments in the field of transport. First of all, we are talking about the development of the eastern chord of the International North-South Transport Corridor," he said.

He noted that thanks to joint efforts, Turkmenistan and Russia managed to multiply the volume of export, import and transit traffic in 2023.

The Ambassador stressed that the railway connection played a special role in this, adding that further work is currently underway to improve the end-to-end technology of cargo flows, set up electronic data exchange on routes, create competitive tariff conditions and attract additional cargo volumes through international logistics companies.

"Russian Railways Holding is increasing cooperation with Turkmen and Kazakh partners to achieve maximum efficiency of the route. It will be important for the development of multimodal transportation to include information on the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in the digital register of transport and logistics centers for the North-South transport corridor," Volynkin said.

Meanwhile, within the framework of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia, the focus remains on the development of cooperation in transport projects, especially within the framework of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Both countries adhere to a mutually beneficial approach, striving to expand transport links and ensure the efficient use of transport routes, which includes joint infrastructure investments, modernization of transport networks, and the exchange of advanced logistics technologies.
