Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan have agreed to set up a tripartite railway committee, Kazakhstan Railways reported today.

The parties reached this agreement at the talks during the visit of the Kazakhstan Railways delegation to Iran and Turkmenistan.

"As a result of the working trip we decided to establish a tripartite committee, which will include representatives of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan. Their meeting will be held in the city of Aktau, in May of this year," a statement said.

During the visit to Iran Kazakhstan Railways delegation familiarized with the construction of the Iranian section of the Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran railway route.

"The Kazakh section of the route is ready for operation. Construction of the most part of the railway section running through the territory of Iran is to be completed by the end of this year," a statement said.

In addition, the Kazakh delegation visited the port of Bandar Abbas, located on the Persian Gulf shores, where it got acquainted with its transport and logistics capabilities. In the future, the possibility of ports can be used for the transportation of Kazakh goods to the south.

In Iran, Kazakhstan Railways representatives also held a number of business meetings. Thus, the Kazakh delegation got acquainted with a new railway terminal and met its managing director Parviz Golabi.

In Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan Railways President Askar Mamin met with Railway Transport Minister Bairam Annameredov. They discussed the construction of the Turkmen section of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway route and the schedule of its completion.
