BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. Kazakhstan requires 308 billion Kazakh tenge ($667.51 million) for completing tourism infrastructure projects, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, the Vice Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

According to the vice minister, the funds will enable the completion of 49 projects with finalized design and estimate documentation.

Some of the above-mentioned projects include shore protection work at the Alakol lake, projected to be worth around 17.5 billion Kazakh tenge ($37.92 million), and landscaping the promenade at Balkhash. The latter is estimated to cost 2.6 billion Kazakh tenge ($5.6 million).

Additionally, a construction of 1.9 kilometer long road in Imantau-Shalkar resort area, which will cost 300 million Kazakh tenge (around $651,500) is also planned.

“The implementation of these projects is important for development of tourism in the regions. The investment attractiveness of the regions will also increase as a result of these projects. The lack of basic infrastructure in national parks is a deterrent to tourism development”, Yerkinbayev concluded.

Previously, Kazakhstan registered a threefold increase in the volume of incoming foreign tourists visiting the country in 2022. The number of incoming foreign tourists amounted to 610,000 people during that year. This constitutes a significant increase, compared to the 330,000 visitors registered in 2021.
