ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 15. The foreign trade turnover of the Kazakh region of Mangistau with the US has increased significantly, increasing almost 5 times in the first half of 2023, Trend reports.
This was stated at the meeting of the head of the regional executive power, Nurlan Nogayev, with the Ambassador of US to Kazakhstan, Daniel N. Rosenblum.
As Nogayev noted, the US plays an important role in the Mangistau region's foreign trade relations, and this growth is reflected in total trade turnover, including imports of goods such as auto parts, industrial equipment, household appliances and mobile phones.
According to him, in the Mangistau region, 15 enterprises with US participation are registered in various sectors of the economy.
"Mangistau is traditionally an industrial region, where approximately a quarter of Kazakhstan's oil is produced. Every year, up to 17 million tons of oil are produced in the region, which is 20 percent of all oil produced in Kazakhstan. The mining industry dominates the region's economy, accounting for more than half of the GRP and more than 80 percent of the total industry," he said.
In addition, during the meeting, prospects for the development of green energy, the socio-economic potential of the region, issues related to the development and support of the Trans-Caspian transport route were discussed.
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the US in 2022 exceeded the pre-pandemic level and amounted to $3.1 billion, which is 37 percent more than in the previous year. Exports of goods from Kazakhstan increased by 32 percent to $1.2 billion, while imports of American goods increased by 40 percent to $1.9 billion. The number of American investments and companies in Kazakhstan increased by 9 percent over the year.
