ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 8. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will sign a number of important documents, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during a narrow-format meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Astana today, Trend reports via Akorda.

The people of Kazakhstan are paying great attention to your visit, which speaks volumes. In recent years, the atmosphere of relations between our countries has radically improved. We will make every effort to fill our cooperation with concrete content.

This visit is very significant, as we'll sign documents that will define specific areas of collaboration and alliance between our states," he said.

Besides, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of this official visit to Kazakhstan.

"Today's visit has historical significance. Our meeting will further strengthen the centuries-old bonds of friendship and good neighborliness between our two peoples and elevate our strategic partnership and alliance to a new level," he explained.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed prospects for further strengthening cooperation in the political, trade-economic, transport-transit, investment, energy, agricultural, water, cultural-humanitarian, and industrial sectors. Regional and international agenda issues were also considered.

The presidents expressed satisfaction with the progressive development of Kazakh-Uzbek relations across all areas.

To note, Mirziyoyev set off for an official visit to Kazakhstan on August 7.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will hold the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council in Astana.

The Uzbek leader's visit program also envisages the attendance of the Uzbek president in the new Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the First 'Central Asia + Japan' Dialogue.
