BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 1. Kyrgyzstan and British MindDock Limited DBA Enterprise Energy Investments company have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the construction of the Upper Naryn hydropower cascade, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.

The document on joint construction of the cascade in Kyrgyzstan was signed by Kyrgyz Minister of Energy Taalaybek Ibraev and the head of the British company Robert Beathard.

According to the minister, the construction of the Upper Naryn hydropower cascade is part of a project for the elimination of the shortage of electricity in the country.

“If we build the Upper Naryn hydropower cascade, we will increase electricity generation in the Naryn and Issyk-Kul regions, meet the requirements for the security of the energy system of Kyrgyzstan, and reduce the electricity shortage in the regions,” the minister said.

It is noted that the memorandum is valid from the date of its signing until April 15, 2023. It automatically terminates if the parties do not fulfill their obligations in accordance with the memorandum.

Following the signing, the sides also discussed the issues of further cooperation in the energy field.

The Upper Naryn hydropower cascade when completed is expected to include four hydroelectric power plants (Akbulun, Naryn-I, II, III), with a total installed capacity of 237.7 megawatts and an average annual output of 942.4 million kilowatts per hour.

Initially, the constriction started in June 2013 with the participation of the Russian RusHydro Company, but, in 2015, Kyrgyzstan cut the deal with Russia.
