Five Russian soldiers have died and five others are injured following a road crash in southern Tajikistan, the Tajik Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Yesterday evening on the Dushanbe-Dangara highway (160 km to the south of Dushanbe), a minibus owned by the Chinese construction company China Road broke traffic rules and crashed into a Kamaz truck owned by the Russian military base in Tajikistan," a ministry spokesman told RIA Novosti.
Both vehicles overturned. Lt. Col. Pavel Kulakovsky, three contract soldiers and the Kamaz driver died. The ministry did not give information on casualties in the Chinese vehicle.
The Russian truck was on its way to a training exercise of a Central Asian rapid reaction force near the Afghan border.
