Ashgabat hosted the National Forum "Integrated Water Resources Management in Turkmenistan," organized by the Water Economy Ministry and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Thursday.

The workshop was held within the framework of EU Water Initiative National Policy Dialogues (NPD).

NPD national coordinators of the Central Asian countries, representatives of the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, as well as UNECE attended this event.

Speakers highlighted the issues of protection and use of transboundary rivers and in general water consumption in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. The efforts of the international community aim at ensuring effective mechanisms of water resources management for hydropower and irrigation.

The article also states that Turkmenistan carries out water-saving measures - a large-scale planting, introduction of advanced irrigation (drip) techniques.
UNECE contributes to the international cooperation to prevent, limit and reduce pollution of transboundary waters and their sustainable consumption.
