Merdan Annayev has been appointed deputy chairman of the 'Turkmen Standards' Main State Service by presidential decree, an official Turkmen source said.

Around a month ago, the prosecutor general's office prepared a report on the results of inspections carried out in the 'Turkmen Standards', during which numerous violations of existing laws were revealed.

In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on account of serious shortcomings in his work dismissed chairman of 'Turkmen Standards' Nurgeldy Orazov, while at the same time instructing prosecutor's office to identify shortcomings in the service and in accordance with the law bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Abdyrahim Tachmammedov has been appointed the new head of the service. Previously he held the position of vice-president of the Supreme Chamber of Inspection.

Violations were found in the issue of granting permits for use on Turkmenistan of heavy trucks whose capacity exceeded the maximum allowable weight standards for the goods transported to exploit the country's highways.

Non-compliance with the existing provisions of customs clearance and operation of heavy vehicles were also revealed.
