Turkmenistan is developing a draft of a comprehensive document – the National Maritime Strategy of Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The strategy is being developed in order to take systematic steps to further build up relations in the Caspian Sea.
Turkmenistan also plans to create a special interdepartmental working group in order to prepare the final version of the plan.
The country has also prepared draft protocols on cooperation in such areas as combating illegal extraction of biological resources and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Caspian Sea.
In addition, with the participation of relevant state institutions of Turkmenistan, a draft concept of the new Caspian Environment Programme (CEP) was developed, which was sent to the Caspian states for study and subsequent joint consideration.
It is necessary to focus on tasks aimed at ensuring economic growth and increasing the competitiveness of the region, as well as at strengthening traditional cultural and humanitarian contacts between the coastal countries, the report says.
