BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 3. The head of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan Maksat Khudaikulyev discussed with head of Iran Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvanifar the establishment of joint border control, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

During the talks, the sides discussed the expansion of trade at four border points, the removal of trade barriers and the expansion of border markets.

Based on the results of the meetings, it is planned to draft a memorandum on the exchange of experience, holding regular and joint meetings between the customs services of the two countries.

Furthermore, the parties noted that joint border control gives the border states the opportunity to ensure more efficient and faster passage of goods and passengers at the borders, contributing to the increase in trade turnover.

The prospect of forming a free trade zone in the Caspian region opens up the possibility for Iran to get into a market with a capacity of $600-700 billion.

Meanwhile, in the second half of last year, a border market opened on the border of Turkmenistan and Iran, after 34 months of downtime due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
