ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 12. The Turkmenabat Silk Production Association, located in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, manufactured silk products worth 80.09 million Turkmen manat ($22.86 million) from January through August 2023, Trend reports.
During this period, the association produced 80 tons of raw silk, more than 20,200 square meters of fine silk fabrics and 24 square meters of carpets.
Furthermore, the enterprise exported 10 tons of raw silk to foreign countries in the first eight months of this year, worth about 5.5 million Turkmen manat ($1.57 million).
In general, the Lebap region collected 1,060 tons of silkworm cocoons this year, which is 4.95 percent more than the planned volume (1,010 tons).
Silk is one of the most important agricultural products grown in Turkmenistan. The main silk production regions in the country are Mary, Ahal and Lebap regions.
One of the leading enterprises of the sericulture industry of Turkmenistan is the Ashgabat Silk Factory and the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association.
