Uzbekistan to allocate over 800 billion soums to develop education system in 2012

Uzbekistan will allocate 527 billion soums to develop secondary education in 2012, Uzbek President Islam Karimov's congratulatory message to teachers on the occasion of their professional holiday said.

"Over 527 billion soums are planned to be allocated in accordance with the recently adopted resolution on the basic parameters of the program for 2012," the message said. "The program includes construction, reconstruction and overhaul of academic lyceums, professional colleges and schools, music and art schools, as well as equipping children's sports facilities with new equipment and inventory."

Moreover , about 300 billion soums will be allocated to modernize the logistics base of the institutes, to improve the process of staff training and to encourage teachers and professors.

The president stressed that over 8,800 schools were constructed, reconstructed and equipped within the state national program.

About 1,537 academic lyceums and professional colleges have been built, and the number of universities has almost doubled to 65.

Teacher's Day has been celebrated in Uzbekistan since 1996 as a national holiday.

A large group of teachers and trainers of schools, colleges and high schools have been recently received state awards and honorary degrees.

The official exchange rate is 1.746.60 soums per $1.
