Uzbek, Latvian diplomats discuss development of relations

Latvian ambassador to Uzbekistan Igors Apokins discussed topical issues of bilateral relations with the leadership of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

At the request of the ambassador issues on assuming of his duties of the diplomatic corps's dean in Tashkent in June were also discussed at the meeting.

Earlier, Turkmen Ambassador Soltan Pirmuhamedov, who ended his mission in Uzbekistan in May, was acting Dean of Diplomatic Corps.

During the meeting the parties stressed that the Latvian-Uzbek ties are based on positive experience of cooperation in all spheres of interaction accumulated over many years. Exchange of visits at various levels contributes to deepening of relations in political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Establishment of groups of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Latvian Saeima helped to promote contacts at the level of parliaments of the countries, as well as to share experiences of legislative activity.

Positive dynamics of bilateral trade turnover was also noted, which grew by 44 percent and reached $192.5 million in 2011.
