Uzbekistan has continued to actively increase the export of flour and cereals in the recent 5 years, the head of the business projects service of APK-Inform news agency, analyst Andrey Kupchenko said, Trend reports.

Kupchenko has made the remark during the ‘Asia Grains & Oils Conference: Online Edition’ online conference, organized by APK-Inform on April 15.

“So, according to the Uzbek State Statistical Committee, in 2016 the revenues from the export of flour and cereals amounted to only $5.5 million, whilst in 2020 it almost reached $220 million, twice exceeding the figure for 2019,” he noted.

“In general, the trade of agricultural products in Uzbekistan has shown positive dynamics over the past 20 years. In particular, the export of agricultural products from the country for 2020 made up nearly $1.5 billion, which is 11 percent of the total revenue for shipped food,” the analyst further said.

“The most significant share in the export structure is made up of vegetables and fruits. Basically, Uzbek products are shipped to Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine,” Kupchenko added.

According to him, the dynamics of imports also demonstrated an upward tendency. So, according to official statistics for 2019, Uzbekistan spent about $2 billion on the purchase of food products, making up 9 percent of the country’s total imports.

“The main products that Uzbekistan purchased in 2019 are cereals, fats and oils, sugar and confectionery and other goods,” he reminded.
