BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10. Two newly established solar power plants with a total capacity of 200 MW in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand and Navoi regions produced more than 159 million KW of electricity from January through April 2023, Trend reports via Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy.
The ministry says that, during the reporting period, the plants made it possible to save some 48 million cubic meters of natural gas, as well as to prevent some 67,000 tons of gas emissions.
It should be noted that the volume of electricity generated by the plants covers the consumption of 200,000 households during the four months period.
Uzbekistan’s authorities pay special attention to the development of the country’s energy sector. In this regard, Uzbekistan attracts funds from international organizations and cooperates with major international energy companies to develop this rector, in particular, to boost renewables deployment countrywide.
Recently, Chinese "China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment Co, Ltd" and the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan signed investment agreements worth $1 billion for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 500 MW each in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions.
Moreover, it should be noted that the energy sector of Uzbekistan is of great interest to Chinese companies.
Back in March 2023, Uzbekistan and some Chinese energy companies signed a memorandum of understanding on launching the construction of wind farms with a capacity of 1000 MW in the country’s Jizzakh region.
