Russia to help create Special Economic Zone in Uzbekistan’s region

TASНKENT, Uzbekistan, October 6. Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone will be expanding, in particular, through creation of a branch-like zone in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region, Trend reports.

Upon the arrival in Russia’s Kazan on an official visit on October 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of the SEZ project in Bukhara prepared by Alabuga.

Uzbek government plans to allocate $60 million for the development of the initial phase of the SEZ, which is expected to lead to the creation of 3,600 jobs.

The deputy director of Alabuga SEZ Artur Ayupov mentioned that the organization aims to attract around 20 residents within the first two or three years of SEZ operation.

"I think that residents from Russia who are interested in locating their production facilities in Uzbekistan will be happy to come to the site created by Alabuga," he stressed.

Ayupov added that the construction of the SEZ in Bukhara is planned to commence next year, pending the approval of regulatory documents by the Uzbekistan’s government.

On October 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev set off on a working visit to Russia, which is scheduled to last until October 7, 2023.

In accordance with the program of the visit, the president of Uzbekistan will visit Kazan and get acquainted with its industrial potential, as well as hold a meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
