TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 7. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provided farmers in the Kamashinsky district of Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region with a mobile seed cleaning plant, Trend reports.
Despite the compactness of the mobile plant, it is able to fully perform all stages of the production process of high-quality seeds, which is a relatively fast and low-cost solution to seed production problems.
It is expected that the new equipment will not only increase productivity but also significantly save time and resources, as well as increase farmers' incomes. The machine is said to be suitable for processing seeds of crops such as wheat, coffee, mash, rice, corn, safflower, etc.
Support was provided within the framework of the FAO’s regional project of integrated natural resources management in drought-prone and salt-affected agricultural production landscapes in Central Asia and Turkey.
The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the state’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Earlier this month, Uzbekistan revealed that it looks to attract $50 billion of foreign investment to its agricultural sector.
Investment and trade agreements worth $1.88 billion were concluded at the Agri-Food Investment Forum in Uzbekistan earlier in September 2023. During the forum, the participants signed agreements on 24 projects worth $857.3 million to attract direct investment, while grants and funds from international financial institutions amounted to $707.5 million. Moreover, trade agreements worth $319.2 million were concluded.
