TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 17. Uzbekistan has discovered 82 million tons of coal reserves in the Surkhandarya region, Trend reports.
As of today, the extraction operations in the region total 541,000 tons. In response to this discovery, Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of coal extraction in the region to 2 million tons.
Additionally, during the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyrev, the need to implement trainings of specialized personnel to ensure the proficient management and optimization of mining activities was underscored.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has extracted 4.46 million tons of coal from January through September 2023.
As per Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee, the recorded number reflects a 14.5 percent, or 563,700 tons, increase compared to the same period last year, when Uzbekistan extracted 3.8 million tons of coal.
In September 2023 alone, large enterprises in Uzbekistan extracted 685,600 tons of coal, which comprises 15.3 percent of the total volume produced from the beginning of 2023.
Moreover, the country plans to increase the overall coal production to 6.5 million tons by the end of 2023, which is 22.6 percent more than the volume extracted in 2022.
