Uzbekistan, Russian company sign memo on solar power plant construction

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 23. Uzbekistan and Zarubezhneft (a Russian oil and gas company) signed a memorandum on the implementation of the project for the construction of a solar power plant in Andijan region, Trend reports.

The document was signed during a meeting between the governor of Uzbekistan’s Andijan region and the General Director of Zarubezhneft company Sergey Kudryashov.

According to the project, a solar power plant with a total capacity of 100 megawatts will be implemented in 2024–2026. The total cost of the project will be $100 million.

Meanwhile, the World Bank Group, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar), and the Government of Uzbekistan have inked a financial deal to support a 250-MW solar photovoltaic plant coupled with a 63-MW battery energy storage system (BESS).

According to the World Bank, the initiative aims to broaden access to clean and dependable electricity for around 75,000 households.

The funding bundle encompasses a $53 million loan from IFC and loans totaling up to $106 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), all aimed at backing the construction and operation of the new plant.
