How much Iran's electricity costs compared to rest of the world?

Iran eyes to increase the price of energy bills and local officials indicate the costs of energy production is much higher than current prices paid by the citizens.

The managing director of Regional Electricity Company of Mazandaran Hossien Afzali discussed the issue in an interview with Trend.

"The people of Iran are not paying for the real costs of electricity while the electricity price in the world for every kilowatt is around 15 cents per hour, while it's even more in Italy. In Iran every kilowatt is 2 cents," he noted.

"The costs of equipment, installation, preserving power network and staff salaries have increased at the moment, however the electricity price has not increased significantly," he said.

"Electricity is like gasoline and receives subsides, so people are not paying for the real costs of energy production," he explained.

The highest electricity prices around the world vary between nearly 16 and 14 cents per kilowatt an hour. Among the most "expensive" countries in this regard are Italy, Germany, the UK, followed by Belgium, Portugal, Spain.

The electricity cost in Canada is 7.23 cents, while it is 6.42 cents in Finland and 5.34 cents in Sweden.

The average power price in Iran is equal to 2 cents for kilowatt per hour.
