(www.irna.ir) вЂ" A Foreign Ministry official said here Thursday that Iran's nuclear activities were fully transparent and carried out under the supervision of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors.
The official, whose remarks were faxed to IRNA, rejected a statement made by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to reporters during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel accusing Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, reports Trend.
He said he hoped that President Mubarak simply made a mistake of confusing Iran's peaceful nuclear program as one for production of "nuclear weapons."
The recent move of Iran of allowing scores of representatives of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) states along with foreign reporters to visit its nuclear installations shows Iran's good intentions and transparency in conducting its nuclear activities, the Foreign Ministry official reiterated.
He also noted that remarks made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel catered to the political interests of US and Israeli authorities.
