Iran boosts gas re-injection

Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 19

By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran increased gas re-injection to oil fields, run by National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

NISOC produces about 80 percent of Iran's crude oil.

Abdol-Hossein Koutaki, the director of the first zone of National Iranian Gas Transmission Company, said that gas injection to NISOC's oil fields increased by 27 percent to 5.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) in the first 4 months of the current fiscal year, started on March 2015, Shana reported Aug.15.

Iran re-injected about 34 bcm of gas to old oil fields, which share about 80 percent of the country's active fields during the last fiscal year, while this figure should increase significantly to slow the oil production decline.

The gas re-injection level increased by 1 bcm last year.

Over 54 bcm of gas should be injected annually to the country's oilfields according to the Islamic Republic's Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015).
