Iran plans to launch a new single point mooring (SPM) in Asaluyeh Gas Condensate Exports Terminal in Persian Gulf, Pirouz Mousavi, head of the Iranian Oil Terminals Company, said.

Giving the fact that the volume of the gas condensates output from the South Pars gas field has increased, the fourth SPM will be launched in Asalouyeh to meet the increasing export, Mousavi said, SHANA news agency reported Dec. 4.

A single-point mooring(SPM) (also known as single buoy mooring (SBM) is a loading buoy anchored offshore, that serves as a mooring point and interconnect for tankers loading or offloading gas or liquid products. SPMs are the link between geostatic sub-sea manifold connections and weathervaning tankers.

The Asaluyeh terminal has unique importance as it is located in South Pars and provides storage and export services for gas and gas condensate production of the field, he added.

Asaluyeh is one of Iran's biggest hubs for export of oil, gas and petrochemical products. It also provides fuel bunkering services, facilities for storing oil products and refueling ships.

Reportedly 320,000 ton oil tankers can berth or receive their consignments at Asaluyeh terminal through three SPMs. the three SPMs, have a loading capacity of 5,200 cubic meters per hour, or close to 125,000 cubic meters a day.

National Iranian Oil Terminals Company owns and operates oil carrier tanker loading terminals. The company is based in Tehran, Iran. It operates terminals at Kharg Island, Asalouyeh, Mahshar, and Neka, Iran. National Iranian Oil Terminals Company operates as a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Company.
