Iranian Railways Company expects to receive 18 railbus sets to enhance its rail system over the next fiscal year (starts March 20, 2017).

The head of Iranian Railways Company, Saeid Mohammadzadeh, has expressed hope that the country’s railway system would see a considerable improvement in its performance over the next five years, IRNA news agency reported.

According to the official, each railbus set is capable of pulling four railway carriages with a capacity of carrying 336 passengers.

He further said that the railbuses, capable of moving at the speed of 120 kilometers per hour, are designed to be employed for carrying passengers at the suburban areas of large cities.

The official did not provide further information on the plan to acquire the railbuses.

Last March, Iranian Railways Company and South Korea's Hyundai-Rotem Company signed a memorandum of understanding for provision of 150 railbuses through finance credit lines.
