By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Japan has provided an official development assistance (ODA) worth $7 million to Iran’s Customs Administration to purchase the X-ray devices, Masoud Karbasian, Iran’s deputy economy minister, said.

Karbasian, who heads the Islamic Republic’s Customs Administration, said that Japan has granted the funds after its assessments indicated that Iranian customs seriously deal with infractions, Mehr news agency reported.

He further said that Iran has the most X-ray devices in the region, adding that due to its location, Iran needs to implement more control and supervision over transit to safeguard security.

Karbasian also said that his organization has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Islamic Republic’s Defence Ministry to manufacture five X-ray devices for customs.

“The deal will be finalized soon,” Karbasian said, adding that the custom administration will provide the defence ministry necessary assistance in this regard.
