Imposing any restrictions on Iran’s plans to acquire aircraft would be in breach of the country’s nuclear deal with the world powers clinched in 2015, an Iranian aviation official said.

Reza Jafarzadeh, a spokesman for Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, has said that recent remarks by the US Treasury Head Steven Mnuchin on Iran’s aircraft deal have caused concerns among the officials of Boeing and Airbus, IRNA news agency reported.

Mnuchin has earlier said that the US Treasury is reviewing licenses for Boeing and Airbus to sell aircraft to Iran.

The Islamic Republic’s flag carrier Iran Air has already reached agreements with the European and American aircraft companies to purchase about 200 passenger aircraft.

“Boeing continues to follow the lead of the US government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines are contingent upon US government approval,” Kate Bernard, a spokeswoman for Boeing, commenting on the issue told Trend.

The agreements with the aircraft manufacturers came following Iran’s nuclear deal with the world powers in 2015 which is also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
