Iraq has imposed a 45-percent tariff on cement import from Iran, the head of non-metal mine products department of Ministry of Industries and Business Seifollah Amiri said July 25, the official website of Tehran Chamber of Commerce reported.

According to the report, he said that Iraq has imposed high duties for Iranian cement to support domestic production.

“Currently, only exporting of Clinker to Iraq is possible,” he added.

As of yet, Iran exports $6 billion worth of commodities, of which 55 percent is construction materials. Iran also exports $3 billion worth of services to Iraq annually.

Iran’s nominal cement production capacity stood at 80 million tons per year in 2016, but the actual production was only 57.9 million tons due to weak domestic demand and marketing problems abroad.
