Iran’s monthly steel production up by 17%

Over 1.575 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran in July 2017, the World Steel Association said in its latest monthly report released Aug. 24.

The figure indicates an increase by 16.6 percent compared to the same month of 2016 (1.351 million tons).

The country’s steel output reached 11.522 million tons in the first seven months of 2017, 14.1 percent more year on year.

Iran was the world’s 14th biggest producer of steel in the 7-month period. The country also ranked second in the region after Turkey.

According to the World Steel Association, 977.321 million tons accounted for world crude steel production in 67 countries in the first seven months of 2017.

Some 67 countries included in the World Steel Association statistics accounted for approximately 99 percent of total world crude steel production in 2016.

China was the biggest crude steel producer in the world in the first seven months of 2017 with about 491.553 million tons of production, followed by Japan (60.913 million tons), India (58.017 million tons), the US (47.748 million tons), Russia (40.925 million tons), South Korea (40.868 million tons) and Germany (25.734 million tons).

The Islamic Republic’s steel output throughout 2016 hit 17.895 million tons. This shows an increase of 10.8 percent year-on-year.

The country’s steel output in 2015 stood at 16.11 million tons, 1.4 percent less year-on-year.

Iran also produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.

The country’s crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than in the preceding year.
