Iran exports vegetables to Russia

Iran exports vegetables including garlic, tomatoes and cucumbers to Russia, Hossein Shirzad, head of Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran, said.

Iran’s garlic export to Russia has started in the current year and 41 tons of the product is being exported to the neighboring country so far, Shirzad said, the Press Office of agriculture ministry reported.

He expressed hope that the volume will increase by the end of the garlic production season in Kazakhstan, one of the main suppliers of the product to Russia.

Shirzad further said that since the beginning of garlic harvest in current year, 800 tons of the product have been purchased from farmers of Kerman, Zanjan and Ardabil provinces and stored in cold warehouses in East Azerbaijan province for domestic use as well as export to Russia.

Iran’s garlic export to Russia amounted to 1,235 tons, worth $1.22 million in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, according to the data of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, 47 and 44 percent in terms of volume and value, respectively, year-on-year.

Iran exported 2,360 tons of garlic, worth $2.184 million to Russia in the preceding year.

Iran’s overall garlic exports accounted to $1.31 million in the last fiscal year, 45 percent less compared to the previous fiscal year.
