S. Korea stops importing oil from Iran

The statistics of South Korea’s Customs Service show that the country didn’t import oil from Iran in September for the first time in the past six years, Fars News Agency reported.

According to the statistics, the last time when Seoul didn’t import oil from Tehran was in September 2012.

South Korean companies have stopped importing oil from Iran since July, as they failed to get the necessary approval from the US government.

The South Korean government is in talks with the US to get permission to import oil from Iran.

South Korea imported 9.1 percent less oil from Iran in the nine months of this year compared to the same period last year, and the figure reached 7.15 million tons.

This is while South Korea increased oil import from the US five-fold in September compared to the same period last year and the oil import reached 668,704 tons.
