Iran to co-op with Iraq Kurdistan Region in livestock trade

TEHRAN, Iran, June.8

Iran and Iraq Kurdistan region would cooperate in trading technical knowledge of animal farming and export of livestock products, said Deputy Agriculture Minister.

The following cooperation could include trading technical knowledge of equipment in the livestock industry and export of livestock products and genetic material, said Morteza Rezaei, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Two main targets of livestock farming in Iran are to supply animal protein and have sustainable development of this occupational field," he added during a meeting with representatives of the Iraq Kurdistan region government and the Minister of Agriculture.

"We have three solutions to reach our targets that include improving products quality and quantity, work infrastructure, and Improving the productivity of livestock products, "he said.

Iran produced 11.5 million tons of milk in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) and it is predicted to increase to 11.9 million tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021).

Annual red meat production in Iran is 890,000 tons while the country's white meat production is 200,000 tons.

"The new government in Iraq Kurdistan region has good ground for activity of private companies in agriculture and livestock farming sectors," noted Iraq Kurdistan region Minister of Agriculture.

"Markets of Iraq Kurdistan region and Iraq are fully prepared for Iran's agricultural products while Iran and Kurdistan region could cooperate in improving the agricultural industry in Kurdistan region," expressed Begard Talabani.
