The director of gas supply at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Gholamreza Mashayekhi said that 98 percent of the Iranian population benefits from using natural gas, Trend reports via SHANA.
According to Mashayekhi, in the urban sector the use of gas has reached 98 percent, while in the rural sector - 85 percent.
He said thar during the last Iranian year (ended on March 21), 2,918 villages and 23 cities were connected to the national gas distribution network, adding that the goal of NIGC to increase the number of people using natural gas in the near future.
According to the decision of the Supreme Economic Council of Iran to support the production sector and reduce air pollution in the country, a special subsidy, related to gas, is allocated for production and industrial units, Mashayekhi said, adding that these units will be exempted from paying gas-related fees to a certain point.
