BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 9. Iran's electricity exchange with neighboring countries exceeds 3,000 megawatts per year, the deputy director of Iran's Tavanir Company Mohammad Allahdad said, Trend reports.
He added that Iran imports electricity from neighboring countries located in the north, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Armenia during the year.
Allahdad added that during the year, Iran exports electricity to Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
The official noted that Iran's electricity policy is to reduce the import and exchange of electricity to zero. In this direction, it is possible to import electricity on different days, months, and seasons and export electricity at other times in return. Iran, for example, has a shortage of electricity in the summer, but in the cold months, electricity consumption drops to such an extent that it attracts attention.
To note, at present, the energy potential of all power plants in Iran (thermal, water, renewable, nuclear, etc.) is more than 92,000 megawatt-hours. Around 82 percent of them are thermal power plants.
