Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi has dismissed Israel’s allegations accusing the Islamic Republic of involvement in the shooting down an Israeli fighter jet and also flying an Iranian drone over the sky of Israel.

“The claims on the flight of the Iranian drone and Iran's involvement in shooting down the Israeli jet is so ridiculous that should not be addressed, because the Islamic Republic of Iran basically has an advisory presence in Syria which is at the request of the legitimate government of that country,” IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

“The Syrian government and its army as an independent state have the legitimate right to defend the territorial integrity of the country and combat any kind of foreign aggression,” he added.

The Israeli military earlier announced that Syrian anti-aircraft fire shot down an Israeli fighter jet on Saturday and Israel struck an Iranian target that had launched an unmanned aircraft into its airspace from Syria, Reuters reported.
