David Bakradze and Karel De Gucht Discuss Bilateral Cooperation Between Georgia and Belgium

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ David Bakradze, the Foreign Minister of Georgia and Karel De Gucht, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium discussed bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Belgium in Brussels. The ministers discussed the process of integration of Georgia into Euro-Atlantic structures during the meeting held on 4 March, the Foreign Ministry of Georgia said.

Great attention was attached to free trade agreements, the visa regime and the active role of the European Union in the peaceful settlement of conflicts within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy.

The foreign minister of Georgia informed his Belgian counterpart of the peaceful initiatives of the Georgian government regarding a solution to internal conflicts. David Bakradze, the Foreign Minister arrived in Belgium for an official visit and will stay in Benelux until 6 March.

The minister will meet with Jaap De Hoop Scheffer, the Secretary General of NATO, Herman Van Rompio, the Chairman of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium, the Vice President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, the European Commissar on Juridical Affairs, Freedom and Security and with representatives of the European Union institutes. The minister will meet with Andris Piebalgs, the European Energy Commissioner as well.
