U.S., Georgia discuss issues of military cooperation

Georgian Defense Minister Dmitri Shashkin and U.S. Army Europe Commanding Lieutenant-General Mark Hertling discussed the issues of the Georgian-US military cooperation. Special attention was paid to cooperation in military training, joint military exercises and the development of military doctrine, Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend.

Shashkin and Hertling also discussed the participation of Georgian troops in the NATO mission ISAF in Afghanistan. American General thanked the Minister for participation in NATO operations, and expressed admiration for the level of training of the Georgian military.

Hertling also met with Deputy Defence Minister Maya Siprashvili, head of the Joint Staff of Georgian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Devi Chankotadze and other senior Georgian military on Tuesday.

The American general visited the joint Georgian-American Seminar at the center of the preparation of multinational forces.

Mark Hertling is authorized to coordinate the actions of U.S. troops in 51 countries.
