The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia brought a charge against Akhmed Chataev, who was detained during a special operation in the Lopota Gorge, under the 1st and 2nd part of Article 236 of the Criminal Code.
According to the Chief Prosecutor's Office,, Chataev is accused of the illegal purchase, possession and carrying of an explosive device which is punishable by imprisonment of between three to five years.
Chatayev did not plead guilty and considers himself to be innocent.
It should be recalled that the Centre for Human Rights requires justification and release of a detainee. According to the human rights organisation, the ethnic Chechen who has been granted refugee status in Austria is being held illegally in Georgia.
On Sunday, a protest action demanding the release of Chataev took place at the Pankisi Gorge (Kakheti, eastern Georgia) where Chechen refugees live.
A preliminary court hearing will be held on Oct.29 at Tbilisi City Court.
