Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili is ready to present her candidacy as an independent candidate at the presidential elections. She will submit her candidacy if she receives a "sign of people", said Zurabishvili on Sunday at a briefing in Poti.

"I am ready to run for the President of Georgia, if I feel the support of people as long as I intend to become an independent candidate," she said.

Ex-minister stressed that Georgia now has been entering "such an era in which the president must be called by someone, should not belong to any political group, but to be independent and free in his activities and subject only to people."

Zurabishvili promised to make a decision in the coming weeks.

So far the post of the President of Georgia is applied by Deputy Speaker of government coalition "Georgian Dream", the Minister Giorgi Margvelashvily and Labour MP Shalva Natelashvili.

The elections of the President of Georgia will be held in October 2013.
