Georgia expects third wave of COVID-19

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 5

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

A third wave of coronavirus is expected in Georgia if people refuse the vaccine and do not act in line with recommendations, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"New cases of coronavirus are surging amid the low rate of vaccination and wearing of masks," said Head of Georgia’s National Center for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze.

According to him, 11,603 individuals have received the coronavirus vaccine in the country since March 15 which is a low figure. We should vaccine at least 3,000 individuals daily,” Gamkrelidze said.

"Currently, 51 percent of the country’s population wear masks which is mandatory and about 1,000 individuals are receiving the coronavirus vaccine on a daily basis," he added.

Georgia has plans to use the Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines starting this month, after the vaccines receive approval from the World Health Organization.

Georgia has reported 228 new cases of coronavirus, 425 recoveries and 11 deaths on the weekend.
