The number of tourists arriving in Georgia from January through September 2021 amounted to 328,600 visitors, which is a decrease of 3.3 percent, compared to 340,100 visitors over the same period of 2020, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).
Meanwhile, the same figure of 2021 also decreased by 79.2 percent, compared to 1.5 million people from January through September 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic).
However, the number of tourists in the third quarter of 2021 increased significantly by 721.8 percent, compared to the same period of 2020 – from 25,600 to 210,400 visitors.
Although, the same index decreased by 71.2 percent, compared to 732,500 visitors over the third quarter of 2019.
The main countries of origin for tourists arriving in Georgia in the third quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020:
Russia – 29,200 visitors (14 times increase);
Ukraine – 25,000 visitors (27 times increase);
EU countries – 24,000 visitors (15 times increase);
Turkey – 23,300 visitors (2.5 times increase);
Armenia – 12,700 visitors (3.7 times increase);
Israel – 9,000 visitors (90 times increase);
Azerbaijan – 6,300 visitors (3.5 times increase);
Iran – 1,300 visitors (no visitors in the reporting period of 2020).
